Can a concrete products industry actively and substantially contribute to sustainable development and environmental protection?

As is well known, the greatest challenge today is to reduce greenhouse emissions. Since 2011, Tsimentodomi SA has been developing and marketing products that contribute as much as possible to this mission.

EcoDrain® products provide a solution to flooding caused by climate change and soil sealing. The water-permeable paving blocks allow rainwater to pass through and gradually drain away. Their surface layer acts as a ‘pre-filter for retaining debris’ (soil, leaves, etc., which gradually reduce the filtration capacity) and the base layer acts as the main filtration filter. Thus, they offer accessibility, have a long service life and performance that is maintained with easy cleaning, without blockages. Alternatives are drainage paving blocks(with wide joints) and paving grids.

Drainage channels and rainwater gutters complete the company's range of surface rainwater management products.

To combat the ‘urban heat island’ phenomenon, Tsimentodomi offers solutions using CoolPave®, CoolMat® and CoolFlag® technologies with built-in ‘cooling properties. These are outdoor paving and wall covering products that reflect solar radiation immediately upon reaching the earth's surface, before it is absorbed and converted into heat.

The advantages are reduced energy consumption for cooling, combating the urban heat island effect and contributing to the reduction of the greenhouse effect.

The range of sustainable products is complemented by the award-winning EcoActive® product series. These innovative products have been developed in collaboration with the Institute of Foundation of Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH) and are the only ones in Greece with built-in photocatalytic properties for breaking down atmospheric pollutants. They continuously clean the air by breaking down pollutants from industrial combustion and vehicle emissions (NOx, COx, CO, NH3, H2S, etc.). In addition, they have self-cleaning properties with the help of rainwater!

EcoActive® products are an excellent alternative to tree planting where this is not feasible, such as in cases of water shortage and/or vehicle/pedestrian access requirements. They also require minimal maintenance!
